Changing Settings
Through Settings you control
how W@Y behaves and how much about you should be
shown to your friends. To access W@Y settins activity, select Main Menu,
then Settings -> Preferences:
Fill in your first and last name if you like; you can determine if they are visible
to your friends and your groups' members setting belonging checkbox "Show my real name"
below.
You can set your gender. Not setting it will cause that annoying questionmark in your
avatar (unless you of course set your avatar as a photo which clearly shows what gender
you are). If gender is set, even without selecting your photo for an avatar W@Y will
display appropriate symbolic picture beside your information:
Write anything you think people should know about you into your "About me" field.
Set your profile picture (if you do not prefer default avatars) clicking "Picture" button.
To find out more about setting your profile picture, read the topic about how to do it in
Status and Visibility.
Put in your phone number if you like. It will only be visible to your friends if you set
the checkbox "Show My Phone Number". You can still have that checkbox unchecked but
phone number filled in case you forget it too often. ;-) Change your mind whenever you like.
The same as for your phone number works for your E-Mail. You decide whether to show it or not.
You have already entered your E-Mail address during registration process but it will only
be visible to your friends if you check "Show My E-Mail" checkbox.
As we have stated in Register and Activate section, your E-Mail address is only used for
registration,
identification and communication between YOU and W@Y service. Unless you decide
to show it to other W@Y users in any of possible ways, either giving it directly or showing it
in your user information, no other W@Y member will ever be able to know it. Messages within
W@Y services use W@Y's own internal messaging system.
GPS distance trace field is closely connected to
precision with which W@Y informs friends about your
location if your Location Status is set to be tracked live via GPS service. Set value in meters
for which your position must physycally (or thought so by your GPS receiver) change for W@Y
to register and update your location to it's web service. This means, if you sit at your caffe
terrace and move around it for two hours having your distance set to for example 100m,
your location should remain apparently unchanged to W@Y users. Unless, of course, GPS
receiver in your device loses it's compass. Default value is 10 meters, but we think a disctance
of 50 meters is just fair enough so your friends can pretty precisely know if you are
on Caffe Bar A or Caffe Bar B terrace.
The second field called "Refresh interval" and treated as value in seconds is also connected
to frequency W@Y uses to
record and update your position, but also your other info, and it happens
in that interval no matter if your location or other info actually changed. Updating your status to W@Y
service W@Y allows your friends to see what is going on with you since last update
and also retrieves latest information about what is happening with others in W@Y world.
Status update and retrieve is also used to check if you have any new
messages and notifications
waiting for you.
Default interval is 30 seconds. Notice, however, that depending on number of friends you have
and groups you are member of, retrieving information can create pretty nice
network traffic.
To save some money if you pay for your internet services by traffic and to avoid overheating
your device constantly transferring too much data between it and W@Y service, set this interval
to some reasonable time, for example 5 minutes. If you really need your status be updated more
often or expect some extremely important message, put shorter time here. Everyone should decide
how often her/his status should be updated and how often he wants to see what's new.
This automatic data update and exchange can be forced at any time (if you set too long refresh
interval) by selecting Main Menu -> Refresh command from W@Y's main menu.
Quote Messages is an option used in W@Y messaging system. It provides the possibility to
have a text from a message you are responding to already "pasted" into response text.
You can select your default user interface LANGUAGE. So far we provide only three
languages as required by some local usage requirements being English as main and default
language. There can be more languages added in the future. To make an application
appear fully in language you select, you should restart W@Y.
Auto Start option, set to ON by default, tells W@Y to
start up with your device.
Having W@Y auto-started will take care that you don not forget to start it manually
and miss something important in your W@Y life. However, if you like to stay out of the
turmoil and enter W@Y world just from time to time, turn this optin off. Then, start and
quit W@Y whenever you want. You can of course turn this option on again when you like it again.
W@Y by design works like a SERVICE. That means it will run in the background and update
your status and retrieve information even when running in the background while you do
something else with your device. It will display notification in OS notification bar to let
you know that something happen. So leaving AutoStart option on is the preferred way.
